Nancy Friese American, b. 1948

Nancy Friese’s accomplishments and expertise in painting and printmaking have been recognized as a recipient of extensive and prestigious national and international awards and fellowships and through her election as an Academician to the National Academy of Design in New York.  Friese received an MFA degree from Yale University School of Art. 
 
Along with being the inaugural resident artist at The Garden Conservancy (2025), Friese has been invited to paint at many distinguished arboretums, national land trusts and gardens including the Gardens of Claude Monet in Giverny, France; Planting Fields Arboretum, Oyster Bay, Long Island, NY; Westerly Land Trust, RI; the Taft Museum of Art Rose Garden, Cincinnati, OH; and Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Medora, ND. She painted the stroll gardens of Japan during a six-month Japan-US Friendship Commission Grant.
 
Friese's work is held in many public and private collections including the Boston Public Library; Brest Museum of Fine Arts, France; Florence Griswold Museum; UCLA Hammer Museum; Los Angeles County Museum; National Museum of Women in the Arts; Muscarelle Museum of Art; Museum of Fine Arts Boston; The New York Public Library; North Dakota Museum of Art; Portland Art Museum; RISD Museum; Spencer Museum; and Yale University Art Gallery.
