This tells the story of daughter, April, locked in eternal dialogue with her mother, Grace. Both adults with accomplished careers, each in support of the other as they navigate the ups and downs of life. The conversation is intense as seen in the expression on their faces. Grace is a retired engineer, one of few Black women engineers in the country, and April is a performer, minister, activist and highly valued community and cultural member in Rhode Island. This highlights the special bond often formed between mothers and daughters as one passes wisdom and knowledge to the other, as they share secrets only known to them, and as caretaking roles begin to switch. The space between them is energized with bits of brocade fabric, stippling and active brush markings to illustrate the complex layering of time and serves as a striking example of generational exchange.
