                                                    With a dramatic composition focused on the tender gesture of a Black man touching a plant with buds, this is one of the first paintings where I employed stencils and incorporated fabric. Among the first forays into mixed-media and layering materials, this work appears different from the more recent works. The white silhouetted flowers become dominant graphic elements in the picture plane from which the two figures emerge.
