Orit Hofshi (Israeli, b. 1959) creates monumental and singular works depicting neo-romantic landscapes. The works in Ephemeral Passage are part of Hofshi’s ongoing preoccupation and observation of our shared human experience and condition. The centerpiece depicts a crowded ensemble, including several figures and a Nubian ibex. The emotional tension between figures and setting portrays aimlessness, resignation, resilience and introspection, emphasized by the hazy topographical horizon, just beyond several massive rocks. The massive boulders in Ephemeral Passage reappear in Buffer Zone also on view at the fair. The recurrence of the ibex and boulders suggest a continued preoccupation with time and our brief existence on the planet, both humans and animals. Amphitheatre stands out as a piece with no living beings present. Amphitheatre, by definition, defines a way of seeing the world from seats on all sides. The desolate, rocky landscapes depict a deserted quarry, a prime example of implied human activity in a natural terrain that, once abandoned, can never return to its natural state of being.
Orit Hofshi is a prominent Israeli contemporary artist renowned for her large-scale, woodcuts and mixed-media prints, drawings and installations, that explore themes of vast time, resilience and the human condition. Based in Herzliya, Israel, Hofshi bridges traditional printmaking techniques with timeless narratives. In 2026, Orit Hofshi received the Lazar Prize for Contemporary Israeli Art and will be exhibited at The Petach Tikva Museum of Art in June 2026. The Lazar Prize recognizes outstanding contemporary Israeli artists.
