Cade Tompkins Projects is pleased to participate in the debut of OMG Art Faire located in Kingston, New York. Opening Thursday, September 30 and running through Sunday, October 3, 2021.
The 19th century Hudson River School of painters, whose aesthetic vision was based on romanticism and recollection combined with the deep appreciation of local natural surroundings, became more important stylistically at the onset of the American Industrial Revolution.
Cade Tompkins Projects curation is looking closely at contemporary artists whose work relates to the history of the Hudson River School of painters. We curated works for the OMG Art Faire with artists who carry on the tradition of plein air landscape paintings as well as works created from memory. Senior among these artists are Nancy Friese (American, b. 1948) and Thomas Sgouros (American 1927-2012). While Nancy Friese is one of our country’s preeminent painter/printmaker, who works directly from nature, Sgouros painted his works from memory. Nancy Friese’s color is intense and highly energized as in the oil on canvas Glittering Spring 2021 while Thomas Sgouros’ Remembered Landscape 2009 is sweeping and contemplative.
It is thrilling to look toward the next generation of artists concerned with landscape: Allison Bianco whose real and fictive landscapes combine nostalgia and memory in works such as Golden Hour 2020. Serena Perrone’s mythical landscapes in the Janus series and Fata Morgana/Mondo Nuovo that encourage the viewer to step into the void while contemplating the edges. Susanne Schireson creates a series of “she sheds” which glow in the dark and house a single female figure in the act of creating or thinking.Justin Kim’s colorful landscapes are filled with flora and fauna in a overlay of pattern and decoration. Kirstin Lamb paints a wooded scene in the manner of pointillism. Michael Krueger depicts flowering trees in eye popping colors in The Optimism of Trees 2020
Neon Poppy by Aaron Pexa and Oculus AfroVictorian hair weaving works by Nafis M. White round out the possibilities of landscape with Pexa inspired by flowers and White by the bright colors of Los Angeles created during her recent residency at Iris Project.

Cade Tompkins Projects focuses on advancing and exhibiting contemporary art, featuring work by emerging artists as well as mid-career and established artists in various mediums including painting, sculpture, printmaking, video, drawing, and installation.
Clients range from major museums to new collectors as well as corporations, hospitals, and seasoned art connoisseurs. She is interested in finding art for clients at all levels of collecting.
Cade Tompkins has been a contemporary art dealer for over 30 years. Her gallery opened in September 2009 and to date has featured over 46 exhibitions by represented artists. Tompkins graduated from the Appraisal Studies in Art program at the Rhode Island School of Design. She studied mass communications at Emerson College and art history at Boston University. Cade Tompkins Projects has exhibited gallery artists at Master Drawings New York 2018 and 2020; Art in an Airstream during the IFPDA Print Fair 2016; SPRING/BREAK Art Show (2016-2021); and the E/AB Fair (2006-2013).
Cade Tompkins is a member of the International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA); Candidate Member of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA); ArtTable, the national professional organization advancing leadership of women in the visual arts; and a sustaining member of the Association of Print Scholars (APS).
